Jane Lake and Bad News!
Nothing like bad news to bring you down in the morning. Israel invades Lebanon, Mumbai bombs, Iraqi this and that, Jane Lake hasn't heard from the Chain Reaction folks.
I would much prefer if headlines were all positive news and the bad news was buried 20 clicks below. I can't believe people wouldn't be happier if they woke up to:
MAN SAVES WIFE FROM DROWNING! rather than MAN DROWNS WIFE!
Happynews.com has the right idea. Poe-news.com has the wrong idea.
If we want to end world violence, wars, poverty, etc, we need to first start to stop sensationalizing them. Yellow jounalism is out. Pink journalism is in.

So it shall be written, so it shall be done!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. I think that we become so use to the bad news that we just become numb to it after awhile. It's kind of like we just expect the bad and except it as a normal part of life, weather it's in our own community or across the world, and it should be anything but normal.

Jane, you might like Ode Magazine. Happy news about people that are part of the solution, not the problem. I don't have a link, but I'm sure they'll turn up on Google.

I'd beg to differ... We desensitize ourselves by not seeing the truth, by not witnessing the steady progression of coffins from Iraq, by not embracing our faults instead hiding them from site. I understand your point of "hyping" news to the point of numbness, but I am not referring to the number of times as in the repeated pictures flashing on the screen, but the pictures combined with a rational discourse of responsibility... I read a quote somewhere today...not sure where... so I will have to paraphrase... "Americans have a disease that is far worse than that of AIDS..." By which the speaker meant, I believe, our ignorance and apathy... If the news is censored, as such, we will continue the violent spiral...
I know you are not suggesting it be censored, you are hoping for utopia... Me too...Unfortunately, we get half truths wrapped in jingoisms...
I didn't mean to sound preachy. I am just passionate about the idea of "no news is good news"...
